Introduction
In this part of my Malta blog I will be covering hotels in Malta and looking at what Unique Selling Points that each one has. Also, I will be looking at how each on caters for different aspects of tourism to the island.
Hotel industry Malta
According to Galea (2019, February 05) Malta had 2.6 million visitors in 2018 this has seen that there is 13% increase in tourism to Malta. This has also meant that Malta has had to increase the number of hotels quickly to keep up with the growing demand of tourists visiting Malta. According to Visit Malta (2019) the total number if hotels in Malta is 104 hotels, by which 13 are 5 star, 40 are 4 star, 34 are 3 star and 17 are 2 star, there is also a number of other places for people to stay.
I will be looking at 5 main hotels that are situated in St Julians that are all 5-star hotels.
Radisson Blu Resort
This hotel has a number of different bars that are open daily Le Bistro offers both vegetarian and Vegan menus this allows them to cater for all dietary requirements, to keep fresh and up to date with current trends they change their menus quarterly basis this allows them to keep up to date, they also offer a Christmas menus that houses Christmas cocktails. The main restaurants have a maximum of 300 capacity at any one time and to accommodate this there is 25 chefs in the main kitchen that is split into sections to allow fluidity.
This hotel also houses a beach club that opens at the end of May and shuts at the beginning of October.
There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel with a total of 252 rooms which all have natural day light in which 95% of them have sea views. The residents of the hotel can use the facilities at Corinthia Hotel.
Radisson Blu Resort also can accommodate meetings and conferences with the maximum capacity of 450 theatre style, 250 classroom style, 300 cabaret style, 700 standing and with the extra capacity of 300 outside.
Corinthia Hotel
Can cater for up to 5000 for conferences. With a total of 249 rooms in which 95% have a sea view these hotels are a Maltese own brand and have very traditional feel to them, the meeting spaces all over look the pools, throughout all the 3 different properties there is a total of 13 different restaurants that all residents can use. Also, the Corinthia Hotels meeting spaces combined can become an exhibition area.
Intercontinental
This hotel has a total of 481 rooms with 24 meeting rooms this s the most room that one hotel has in Malta, they can hold a maximum of 1700 people and 600 theatre style and the main restaurant has a capacity of 450.
Westin Hotel
This hotel as built in 1997 with a total of 340 rooms that all have a sea view, this hotel houses 17 meeting rooms and a privet beach.
Hilton hotel
This hotel has 430 rooms with an executive lounge for gold and diamond guests. At breakfast there is 900 – 1000 covers in a day and in January to middle of April they are 100% full of Meeting Incentives and Conferences. There is also a blue elephant restaurant which is exclusively in the Hilton hotel Malta and all the decoration, food and uniforms are imported from Thailand, all the staff have to attend Blue Elephant school to gain certificates which allows them to work in the restaurants.
