Festive Period and Food, Family and Culture

Introduction

In this post I will explain and discuss what is classed as traditional Christmas food and family culture  in my family for us to eat at Christmas time this will include before Christmas, Christmas eve, Christmas day and finally on boxing day. I will also explain how differs dependent on where we are for Christmas.

Prior to Christmas

The food that we tend to consume all starts with the advent calendars which I have bought for me every year, followed by mince pies which we tend to start buying in on the first day of December and have them right up until the end of the festive period also we enjoy chestnuts.

Christmas culture in our family is that my parents tend to start buying Christmas presents around October, unlike me who leaves it till December, then there is a big tradition that all of the decorations go up in the 1st of December and this is a family occasion. Finally; I believe that it’s not Christmas until I’ve seen the Christmas coke advert on tv once I’ve seen this advert is Christmas (Whiteley, 2008).

Christmas eve

On Christmas eve if we are at home, we tend to have a Chinese as a family this is due to the fact that the oven has the turkey cooking in it,  if we are at home and if we were at other members of the family then on Christmas eve, we would tend to have a buffet food for example pizzas, sausage rolls, pork pies and salad. The reason we had a buffet dinner was because all the other family members would be coming around this time.

Finally; the food we eat differs dependant on where we are eating if we are at home, we would generally eat turkey leftovers for example turkey and chips or turkey curry. If we were at families for Christmas, then we would be having a full roast beef dinner.
